I'm going to ask a really dumb question but one I've wondered about since I first saw your videos years ago! I know you expect complete silence when doing an activity. But there was one instance (I'm blanking on exactly what it was) where the student wasn't silent but it was in that grey area where I could see both sides. If a student sneezes or coughs, I'm assuming that's allowed even if it's supposed to be silent. I mean, that would be a given! But what about the student who, because it's total habit (and, actually kind of polite) instinctively, but quietly, says, "Bless you"? Is that against the rules as well? I would have been in trouble, I suppose. Because that wouldn't be something I thought about but would just be an instinctive response. I was always the really quiet, never-did-anything-against-the-rules student otherwise.
What a great teacher. I watched his whole 3rd period class in the period before this and I was locked in to that class. I watched all 40 minutes of it just because I was learning! Very powerful message
Classroom management is the hardest part of teaching and until you master it you aren’t effective 🎭
Why is it necessary to get into the chair at the moment the students get up from their seats? What is the pedagogical reason? Tell me about this, please, it made me very curious. Thank you.
He doesn't have a wife or kids. I used to be able to teach like that. All it took was my kids' school calling me to pick them up for being sick. Instantly unable to follow through w/ detention or home calls. Busted...
Excellent 👌
I'll be honest with you: that giving your ENTIRE class detention because one student didn't bring their homework sounds too "over the top" to me...at least for students that age. I also don't think that behavioral punishment (such as detention, suspension) should be tied directly to their academic level of success. Yet at the same time, I think you have some other great ideas about managing noise issues.
Wow ... how did you get the students, who did not do their homework. to serve their 60 minute detention? James Deagle
That's a lot of stuff written on the walls. Not sure how helpful that is. Do the students actually care to read it?
Maybe the key is letting students know you will help them access their ability if they are looking to succeed.
4:55.
Your email sir, to receive your forms. Is there any charge for that??
Hello Mr. Hester, I'd like to say a big thank you for your videos. I have learnt a lot from them so far. I have some follow-up questions upon watching this video, where do I find your email address, please?
So, Ivy League white man feels he can save underserved minority populations by laying down the law? Got the vibe that the kids said he was “fine, a good guys, don’t mind going to class.” Is that how you want students to remember your class? I would love to follow up with his students and see what they take away from his class years later. My suspicion would be that they remember the rules, not the content. Punishment does NOT equal saftey. Not sure where you got that. But, this is an imperfect media. Would have to observe the class to understand more.
Please I need the email to request from. Thank you amazing teacher
This is good.
I just found your video recently because I'm about to graduate from teacher school and soon be certified as a new teacher, when I see your video I feel kind a get blessed to start my career as a English teacher. So sad that you are not making video again sins 8 years ago. I hope you can rise up and make this content again.
We need more teachers like him
Very nice, I like the way you manage your class . It's really helpful !!
Legend has it: Mr. Hester quit teaching. Said screw this.
I started watching your videos yesterday and I love the way you manage your classroom..I would love to be able to have some of your forms...
I love your videos❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is the antithesis to "equitable" grading. It would get me instantly fired in CCSD, NV if I had detention (which we don't even have) for missing homework.
Reviewing again your video sir!
don't touch students! asking for it. not even handshakes. no touch.
I found the channel today and I'm watching all the videos, they are great. Please come back
Mr Hester, I think it’s normal to kill people! 🔪🩸
This is quite revealing and inspiring. Some classroom behaviours from students may require a strict response from the teacher while others require tactful understanding of the motives behind certain weird behaviour from a child in the class. I have greatly benefited from this video of yours and I do acknowledge this with every sense of honesty. Thank. Ogiri John Ogiri Grade 4 teacher Stella Maris Schools Wumba campus Abuja.
Hi everyone, I’ve been working at schools for a while. I work in special ed as a professional. What tips can you give me? My students are rude, disrespectful, and I feel that I’m not making a difference. I also feel that I’m always arguing with my students. Any thoughts??
Excellent video for new AND veteran teachers to watch!
Like others here I'd like to have the forms for the slips. But like others I can't write an e-mail, because there is no mail adress and I can't contact the youtube profile, too.
This is so inspiring.<3
Obviously one of the good guys.
As a new high school teacher... This is one of the first times I've been stunned. You are a huge role model of mine... I hope I can one day match you. I am trying to be fair with consequences too in my classroom. I think I just give too many chances before I do it. I like how you have strict one verbal warning - is that per lesson or for the term?
I like how he has 2 posters on the rules on the positive and negative consequences on his wall. I think that is some good classroom management
Hi Tyler 2023 will be my first year of teaching. Thank you for the video this kind of helped me to at be confident when start teaching.👍👍❤❤
I love your approach! My first year was my easy year. This year is my second and it is very challenging due to the maturity level of the students. Last year I used the same techniques as I am using this year and it is just not working as well. Your approach is what I needed in the very beginning. It is getting better!
Classroom has too many things
This made me cry. Thank you for sharing videos like this. I also became obsessed with class management when I became a 2nd grade teacher. This brought me back great memories.
This guy you can tell is def a virgin. Never been laid.
I guess we have little to no life so we comment on random strangers sex lives on the internet when they're just trying to give teaching advice, eh? Congratulations. I guess you can say you're pretty successful.
Your videos are just awesome. We need more content 🙌
Great job! You are inspiring.
You can tell this guy is a virgin. Never gotten laid.
How you know
Greetings from Azerbaijan. I want to learn how many students must be in class that teachers manage it well? Thanks
Red boxes available, emergencies for all in classes.
Love it!! Although I have a different classroom management style, those basic principles apply--especially now. Because I love you, I will treat you like I love you--the agape love. The love that says, when you mess up, I am here and we will try it again. The love that gets you up in the morning and stirs your dreams to get them going. Yeah. I got you Mr. Hester. Bravo.
Mr.Hester is an awesome teacher! Wish I had him in 9th grade English! You can tell he really cares about his students and their education! I love his positive encouragement!
